The 10th Africa Think Tank Summit (ATTS) was held between 8 – 11 October 2024 in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, under the theme, "Evidence-Based Strategies for Sustainable Climate Financing in Africa”. The Summit emphasized the urgent need for innovative climate financing to address Africa’s growing climate challenges, including droughts and floods. Despite requiring US$400 billion annually to tackle climate-related damages, the continent receives just US$30 billion, highlighting a critical funding gap.
Mr. Mamadou Biteye, Executive Secretary of ACBF, stressed the importance of transforming ideas into action by bridging science and policy, leveraging technology, and holding governments accountable. Existing initiatives like the African Climate Change Strategy (2020-2030), the Africa Renewable Energy Initiative, and the Great Green Wall provide a foundation for scaling solutions. Still, more must be done to ensure resilience, equitable transitions, and effective use of funds.
