The Association Des Femmes De L’afrique De L’ouest(AFAO) or West African Women Association (WAWA) is a prominent West African women’s civil society organization which emerged in 2005. Its overall objective is to mobilize women from the 16 countries in West Africa to participate in regional economic integration decision-making processes. In December 2006 the Executive Board approved a grant of US$1.7 million towards the work of the organization.
Project Description:The overall goal of the project was to contribute to the improvement of women economicempowerment in West Africa and reduce gender inequalities in sub-regional, regional policies formulation and implementation for the well-being of women, their families, and theircommunities.
